Expert tips for unlocking the secrets to a longer life

New research presented at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting has led to ways to extend your life.

They found men who practiced these eight healthy habits at age 40 lived up to 24 years longer. For women, tack on 21 extra years.

And the eight are …

  1. Exercising.
  2. Not having an addiction to opioids.
  3. Avoiding smoking.
  4. Managing your stress levels.
  5. Adhering to a healthy diet.
  6. Not binge drinking.
  7. Prioritizing good sleep.
  8. Maintaining positive social relationships.

The most significant impact comes from lack of physical activity, opioid use and smoking. Each carries a whopping 30 to 45% increased risk of death.

“Kim, I’m a bad sleeper!” Fear not. Scientists say even just one small change will give you more time. And it’s never too late. Participants in the 50s and 60s saw a decreased risk of death.
